Chicago Public Schools quietly monitors social media for student gang activity.

Over the past four school years, more than 700 CPS students have been called into interventions based on social media activity that points to their possible gang involvement.

My family had a two-flat on West Washington Boulevard in West Garfield Park. At the time it was a fixer-upper for sure, but the bones were beautiful. My parents envisioned a bright flower garden and space for their kids to play in the compact backyard. That was in the late 1940s.

The iconic cartoon character Betty Boop was inspired by a Black jazz singer in Harlem: Esther Jones, who was known as “Baby Esther”. Cartoonist Max Fleischer introduced the caricature of the jazz age flapper in 1930. It was the first and most famous sex symbol in animation.
